Munji, our Schools Delivery Co-Ordinator, is here this week to give us an update!
It’s been an exciting and busy Spring term in schools for PIE this year! We’ve had lots of projects beginning, continuing and ending whilst we begin our preparation for the Summer term which is traditionally full of careers and transition events!
Positivity PIE
The girl’s group at Leeds have most recently had their rewards trip to Manchester to celebrate the ending of their six-week programme. They definitely showed how they had built their resilience with their positive attitude towards the gloomy Manchester weather! This is such an important programme and is at such a crucial pivot point for these Year 9 girls, I love bumping into them at school and seeing how they are doing!
Diversity PIE
The delivery of our pilot programme has ended and the group have a day trip to Manchester planned to experience some of the diversity our fantastic city has! I have loved visibly seeing the increase in confidence for the young people when discussing their own backgrounds and experiences. They also became more and more open minded as the weeks went on, which again was so great to see! I can’t wait to catch up with the group in a few weeks!
This Matters
Myself and Beth are both in our final sessions of our This Matters programme for Year 7 and 8 in both Leeds and Blackpool. Seeing the year group over the course of a year/two years is so special! We see them mature and grow (they get so tall!) and form great rapport with them. The young people show us such gratitude when we deliver our sessions and they’re always full of fun and valuable discussions!
Future Ready
This has been our longest running programme this school year and both Future Ready groups are heading into their last few sessions with me! They have been hard at work planning their social action campaign and events, before they will present their journey to some very special VIPs!
Y11 Next Steps @ Hyde High School
We have a long running partnership with Hyde High School (I previously delivered our Into the Mix programme there in the Autumn term), so I was excited to be back and working with Year 11. I gave the two groups the opportunity to reflect on what their personal next steps were before the GCSE exam season kicks off. I loved how much they had thought about the future already and how unique and contrasting their personal goals were.
Hate Crime sessions
We have recently received some funding from Stockport Council to conduct some in school sessions about hate crime. I’m doing this in 4 different schools across Stockport and have loved working with some familiar faces from our groups at the Youth Summit. Watch this space to see their creative summaries of our discussions.
Beelong festival
I will be at Chorlton High School in the Summer term to support their planning with their historically brilliant Beelong festival! This festival aims to celebrate the cultural diversity that exists in the school and promote community cohesion – something that is really important to me personally. Look out for how this goes on our socials!
