Anyone who works in education knows that September is the real ‘new’ year! So it’s time for a reflection on our last academic year and what we’ve got lined up this year.
New programmes
Following our super successful pilot of This Matters in Leeds, we delivered this programme over at Unity Academy in Blackpool. It was great to see how well the cohort responded to the sessions, considering the demographics are vastly different to our group in Leeds!
Pilot programmes
Our new programme Diversity PIE was run as a 6 week pilot. This programme was born from my interview all the way back in early 2023 so it was so special to actually deliver the sessions! It focuses on embracing and celebrating the cultural diversity that exists in schools, whilst also exposing less diverse communities to different backgrounds.
L!STEN
Our L!STEN sessions which focus on young people gathering and analysing youth voice, largely take place outside of the school setting. But this year we held our first ever Stockport Youth Summit where all schools/colleges came together to discuss all things Stockport! This meant that we went into each of these settings to deliver a preparatory session, so the young people were ready for the day.
EPP Work
Ciara and Beth have been hard at work with the Enrichment Partnership Pilot, where they are working with secondary schools in Tameside to improve their enrichment offer. They have been going into schools and discussing the current enrichment provision with students, with an aim to make some improvements!
Drop down days
We have delivered so many drop down days on so many different topics! Politics, mental health, transition, branding, wellbeing to name a few. These are always jam packed days, especially working with whole year groups at a time, but it’s amazing how much they achieve in a day!
Social action campaigns
Social action campaigns encapsulate our PIE slices and are a key part of many of our programmes. Here are the topics and slogans of some of projects in school this year:
Reducing food waste: Taste it don’t waste it
Mental health and poverty: Health shouldn’t need wealth
Pollution: When the world shines, we shine
The link between mental health, the outdoors and pollution: Clear skies, clear mind
Racism in school: Leave your slurs at the door
Men’s mental health: Don’t man up, speak up!
Trips
As part of the majority of our programmes we incorporate a related school visit or reward trip into our delivery, here are some of the locations of our visits this year:
ITV Studios, Manchester Metropolitan University, Breakout Manchester Escape Room, Scranchester Food Tour, Leeds City Centre, Pizza Express, Paradise Island Adventure Golf, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Nell’s Pizza.
