PIE and Starting Point Community Learning Partnership, have partnered up to run a new digital programme in Stockport! This pilot programme 'Digital Leap' will be focusing on supporting families with the digital leap from primary to secondary school. The difference between platforms, apps and ways of communication from primary to secondary school can be difficult to navigate for not only pupils but parents/carers as well.
We are working with Reddish Vale High School for this new programme and have been collecting a lot of data to find out the overall opinions and experiences of using online platforms and apps for school.
Over the past month, we have had the chance to attend an options evening at Reddish Vale where we spoke to parents/carers about the digital platforms and apps they are currently using. Claire from Starting Point and Ciara from PIE had a full day at Reddish Vale interviewing staff and students and facilitating focus groups to find out all about their digital experiences at school. Ciara also attended Reddish Vale’s Year 7’s parents evening and got the chance to collect data, with the help of some amazing Year 10 pupils, to investigate Year 7’s parents/carers digital experiences.

Some key themes have been highlighted from these discussions. PIE and Reddish Vale are currently planning sessions which will target some of the issues parents, pupils and staff are currently experiencing when using digital platforms and apps.
The other week Mike from Starting Point delivered their DigiKnow session for staff at Reddish Vale all about digital lending libraries and data banks (free data). The session had great feedback from the staff and they are keen to find out more about what Starting Point can help with.
Keep an eye out for more details about the Digital Leap project and the key areas we’ll be focusing on through our upcoming sessions! Exciting updates coming soon.
