On Friday 7th February, students taking part in PIE’s Future Ready Programmes from Hyde Community College and Unity Academy, Blackpool came together for a day focussing on Cultural Capital in Manchester. The main aim of the day was to introduce students to opportunities in further education and corporate work places.
The day consisted of a morning working within the Sociology Department at MMU. Here the students took part in a taster seminar learning about the social construction of gender, followed by the opportunity to take part in a mini lecture led by our placement students Lucy and Zainab.
Lunch took place at TOPS buffet where everyone had to try a new item of food!
Our final stop was Ernst Young for employability skills workshops with the EY Foundation Team. This included delivering group presentations, spending time working with peers from other schools, and having time to speak to a number of professional role models.
It was a great day, filled with new experiences and opportunities. All our students were left feeling inspired (and very full!).
Thanks to all of our partners who helped make the day possible by offering their time and resources.
