Our 9th Wave of Change programme has just come to an end! We have had a great few months supporting another amazing group of women - all of whom are individual and gifted in their own ways. It is always a pleasure to work with these women to help them to reconnect with their passions and interests, and help them move to their next steps - whatever that may be.
The current cohort has seen women access the programme in different ways - many have accessed our weekly sessions, all have accessed 121 mentoring, and others have accessed more personalised support via the wider Wave of Change team and partners. We are fortunate for the current programmes funded by WEA via government UKSPF funding, that we also are able to provide wraparound support for women. So far this has included continuing our Walking Wavers group - allowing the current cohort of women to also connect with the wider Waver community!
The current programme saw the women decide to focus on their wellbeing as their exploration of social action and the UN Sustainable Development goals - with a realisation that we need to focus on ourselves if we are going to look at making a difference elsewhere in the world.
This led to our first Wave of Change Wellbeing Day which was held on the 2nd July. We loved heading to Heaton Chapel Guide Hut for mindful craft activities with Jen Samani from Make Good (everyone had chance to decorate a plant pot with a meaningful word and then had a blank canvas to 'paint their own picture'), followed by a buffet full of healthy snacks, and nostalgic treats (including Scones with cream and jam, werthers originals and lots of different salads!). We even had fancy non-alcoholic 'cocktails' full of umbrellas! The afternoon saw the tempo brought down with a Yoga session led by Radka and then a sound bath by Josie.
Many women had never taken part in these activities before and loved the chance to have a few hours to try something new and spend time focussing on themselves and their own health and wellbeing. We also had Imani and Fiona from Flourish come along to run a pop up spa - meaning that every one had the chance to receive either a hand and arm, or back neck and shoulder massage! This again was a new experience for a number of the women - giving them another way to focus on supporting their wellbeing.
We finished the programme with a celebration walk and picnic (with afternoon teas from our friends at Start Point!) at Woodbank Park in Stockport. we managed to avoid the rain, and had a great time with the current cohort, as well as welcoming some of our Wave alumni, and some new faces who are interested in joining the next cohort!
We have a new Wave of Change programme starting in September, as well as a new Creative Wavers programme which is looking to support women looking to harness a career in the creative industries. If you're interested in any of those options why not come along to one of our engagement sessions? More details below!
Alternatively, get in touch with Simone or Sarah from our partners at The Goodness Collective (thegoodnesscollective@outlook.com) for more details, or put your name down here and we'll be in touch.
