Step Up to Blackpool 2026
On 26th August, PIE’s Step Up cohort headed off on our annual summer trip to Blackpool! Ten young people joined us for a fun-filled day of adventure, excitement and plenty of memories along the way.
We jumped on the train and made our way to Blackpool, ready to explore everything the seaside town had to offer. Our first stop was Blackpool Tower. After arriving at Blackpool North Station, we made our way towards the tower, stopping outside to take some photos before heading inside for our booking. Once inside, we headed to the 4D cinema experience, where we learnt a brief history of Blackpool Tower and discovered more about this iconic landmark and how it has stood over the town for so many years.
Then it was time to start our journey upwards! The lift took just 69 seconds to reach 380 feet into the sky. When we reached the top, the group were faced with the famous glass floor. After a little bit of encouragement, everyone bravely stepped onto the glass floor!
There were plenty of photos taken as everyone celebrated their achievement and enjoyed the incredible views.
But we weren't finished yet! We made our way even higher, reaching an impressive 401 feet above the ground. It was certainly a great way to start the day!
After making our way back down the tower — and doing our best to resist the tempting gift shop — we headed off to grab some lunch and recharge for the afternoon.
After lunch, the group made their way back towards the famous Blackpool Pier, where the fun continued with a selection of rides. There were plenty of exciting thrills, laughs and maybe a few nervous moments as the young people took on the different rides. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, trying new things and enjoying the experience together. After the rides, we headed down to the beach, giving everyone some time to enjoy the seaside atmosphere before it was time to start making our way home.
Of course, we couldn't leave Blackpool without one final stop at a gift shop! After picking up a few souvenirs, we headed back towards the station to catch our train home.
After a lively journey, we arrived back in Stockport around an hour later, bringing a fantastic day to an end.
Our annual Blackpool trip was packed with new experiences, laughter and plenty of opportunities for the young people to step outside their comfort zones. From braving the glass floor 380 feet in the air to taking on the rides at the pier, everyone had the chance to challenge themselves and make some great memories all whilst celebrating the start of secondary school and we could already see some friendships forming!
A huge well done to all 10 young people who joined us — we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did! We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!
