September is the start of something new, and we certainly have lots of exciting things happening! As young people return to school and college, our programmes are becoming even more important in providing them with continued support.

Several of our programmes restarted this month, giving us the opportunity to catch up with the amazing young people who attend and hear what they have been up to. We have also launched some fresh and exciting new programmes and welcomed a new member of the team!

What we've been up to:

PIE Active

We held our first PIE Active session this month at Adswood Young People’s Centre. The sessions provide a casual, comfortable and supportive space where girls can get active in a variety of ways.

L!STEN

Our group had a focus on jobs & employment for young people this month, plus they have started planning for our Youth Summit - in March!

Listen, Act, Change

Our next phase starts this month - see below for more details.

Step Up

Our Step Up group headed to Awesome Walls for a rock-climbing and team-building session. Having recently started Year 7, the group had an opportunity to catch up, talk about their experiences and share advice while developing teamwork skills and resilience.

Moving On & Youth Boost

We reconnected with our Moving On and Youth Boost groups and loved hearing what they had been up to during the holidays and what they would like to work towards in future sessions. The young people helped us create an agreement for new attendees and reflected on the achievements they have made over the past six months. They will soon begin working towards their Arts Awards and take part in an exciting community project.

New MMU placement student

Our new placement student from Manchester Metropolitan University joined us this week. Allison has made a fantastic start and has already gained an insight into the work she will be doing throughout her placement. We will also work with Allison to identify an area of PIE’s work that she would like to research for her dissertation.

They will research what young people think about the activities and spaces available to them, identify potential improvements and decide how to take action using a real-life budget. Make a difference for young people in Stockport!

The next PIE Active session is on Thursday 8th October 6pm-7pm at Adwood Young People's Centre. This is a session where girls aged 11-16 can come along and get active in a fun, casual and youth led way. The next session will be a Tik Tok Dance Off session with a prize at the end. The group will then be able to feedback what they would like to try the following session. Snacks will be provided also.

Step Up

Our next Step Up session in October will be focusing on digital and creative skills by completing stop motion animation.

Could your organisation offer a young person a small taste of the world of work?

NextGen is looking for Stockport organisations to offer simple micro work experiences - from a workplace visit or short project to a half-day taster. It’s an easy, low-commitment way to support local young people, build your social value and showcase your sector. PIE will support you throughout. Could you offer something small that could make a big difference? Contact shelley@pieuk.org
