Wellbeing with L!STEN
What is the L!STEN Wellbeing Event? The L!STEN Wellbeing Event is in its second year, so I guess it could be classed as an annual event at this point! The idea was initially conceived by our L!STEN Steering Group in response to the Bee Well Survey, which showed young people’s views on all things wellbeing. This year they decided a free event, the day before GCSE Results Day, is just what young people in Stockport needed! Why is it important? On the day, it was clear to see th

HAFfed out this Summer!
Our HAF Provision is nearly finished for the Summer! We have been VERY busy, as you will see, but Gemma & the team (Munji, Ciara, Helen, Mia & Rex) have put together an overview of the whole thing below. Enjoy! This year's HAF has been incredible. I’m so proud of the team we have at PIE. This summer we worked closely with local businesses inviting them in to run sessions; it’s so important for our children to experience different activities. We’re so lucky to have the relatio

One Year in the Flourish Hub!
It's a year since we moved into our Office at the Flourish Community Hub, upstairs at Heaton Chapel Train Station! Last July we moved in after four years of being a part of the Federation Coworking community, firstly based in the Federation building and then in the home of Cooperatives UK. But as our team grew, it was time to look for a new office space that fitted our needs! So we found our new home, as a team. Until then, we had zero storage for our many resources, so the s

Ending this Wave... Here comes the next one!
Our 9th Wave of Change programme has just come to an end! We have had a great few months supporting another amazing group of women - all of whom are individual and gifted in their own ways. It is always a pleasure to work with these women to help them to reconnect with their passions and interests, and help them move to their next steps - whatever that may be. The current cohort has seen women access the programme in different ways - many have accessed our weekly sessions, a

One Year of L!STEN
Over a year ago we began our project to create an alliance of young people, who's aim was to amplify and hear youth voices. The L!STEN Youth Alliance is a collaboration between PIE, Stockport Council and local community group Autisk. This work was commissioned in April 2023 and will run until March 2026. After a fantastic first year of the programme, we've made a report to showcase all that our young people have achieved! We will soon publish the full report, but for now here

Half Term all over Stockport!
Last week we had a very fun three days of activities in multiple locations around Stockport! Day 1 Marple – With the weather being quite unpredictable we had many indoor and outdoor activities planned for the group. Gemma set up a rice crispy cake making stand for the group, and they decorated their cakes with lots and lots of sprinkles, marshmallows and chocolate (well the remainder of chocolate that had not been eaten during the making of the cakes!). Other young people got

I AM WOMAN
Last week we ran an event with our Wave of Change group – one of this group, Anne, has written this blog for us all about the event! As a celebration for International Women’s Day, 8 women brought together by the eighth Wave of Change programme planned and put on a day event on the top floor of Stockport Central Library on Tuesday 5th March. It was called I AM WOMAN inspired by the feminist protest song from the 70s by Helen Reddy. We were celebrating all our strengths an

L!STEN Digital Careers
There was a great turnout for the L!STEN / DigiFest Digital Careers event on Tuesday 13th February . Altogether, 22 young people attended this event at The Space in the centre of Stockport. With help from our L!STEN Youth Alliance Team, the first activity that the young people did was creating social media content by making stop-motion animations. They were given a brief to create an animation of something that represents what PIE is, how PIE helps young people, or what coul

Our HAF Provision has been going strong since before Christmas! This holiday's fund provided activity & food bags for our local families, plus two adventurous days out & about! Our funding came from Stockport Council from the HAF Fund & the Household Support Grant. Gemma & Munji tell us more about it here: Gemma: On the 11th December, we were back at All Saints Primary School in Marple for the return of PIE Primary, something we started last year. Diwali with Jen & STUFF Magazine
At last week’s STUFF magazine session, we were really fortunate to be joined by Jen from MakeBuildGrow to help us learn and celebrate the festival of Diwali. Here at PIE we know how important it is to celebrate our diversity and differences, so this was a really exciting session for everyone to be a part of! Our attendees learnt about both the Hindu and Sikh stories and completed various activities related to these. Both stories are linked here: Sikh: https://www.bbc.co.uk/
