Unity Transition Project

Back in July, we ran two days of Transition workshops for Year 6 students at Unity in Blackpool! One of our favourite parts of the day was seeing our PIE legacy in action, with our Year 10 students helping out as peer mentors - this was the fifth year that we have run this project and the Year 10s were the first group we ran it with when they were in Year 6 back in 2018!

This year the whole of the new year 7 were split into two groups, each of which had to two hour session each day. The aims of the session were to unite the students in their upcoming move to high school, and to build on their confidence both individually and as a team.

  • Day 1 sessions included getting creative and designing a brand new sport, working with new peers, introducing the idea of branding and creating a year group logo.

  • Day 2 sessions included creating marketing materials to prompt the brand, e.g. a song/ stop motion/ badges/ posters. Their brand was then presented to a group with winners being decided.

We also held a raffle held over the two days with prizes for all for imagination, creativity, team work, kindness and showing positive Unity values. There were so many of these positive qualities on show we had a big queue of winners on the last day!

Beth says - "We love running these transition sessions at Unity, and have been running them since our very first year in 2018! It was so nice to be back running them in their usual format this year after two years of delivering in a different way during the pandemic. As always, it was amazing to see the creativity of Unity students, and we were so impressed with how students pulled together to work as a team, all whilst making new friends! We can't wait to continue to work with this year group as they move through their time at Unity."
