Bridgehall - Ready, Set, Secondary School!

Starting secondary school is a big step, so we wanted to help Year 6 pupils at Bridge Hall Primary School feel excited, confident and ready for their next adventure!

Funded by the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), the drop-down day was delivered by the AdsBridge Youth Connection. Partners TLC, R-Time, Stockport County Community Trust and PIE worked together to provide a range of fun and practical sessions designed to prepare pupils for life in Year 7.

Throughout the day, pupils explored resilience, mental health, confidence, positive relationships and staying organised. They also had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and talk openly about anything that was worrying them. From remembering equipment and reading a timetable to making new friends and managing difficult feelings, pupils picked up plenty of useful tips to take with them into secondary school.

The Year 6 teacher told us that the day had been extremely helpful, particularly for pupils who had concerns about the transition. As the AdsBridge Youth Connection partners have strong knowledge of and relationships with local secondary schools, we were able to provide reassuring answers and help pupils feel more positive about what lies ahead.

One of the loveliest moments was seeing pupils recognise team members from community sessions and groups they already attend. It was a brilliant reminder that trusted support does not stop at the school gates—it is available throughout their wider community too.

Secondary school might bring new classrooms, teachers, routines and challenges, but these pupils are now heading into their next chapter with practical skills, helpful advice and a whole community cheering them on!
