HAFfed out this Summer!

Our HAF Provision is nearly finished for the Summer! We have been VERY busy, as you will see, but Gemma & the team (Munji, Ciara, Helen, Mia & Rex) have put together an overview of the whole thing below. Enjoy!

This year's HAF has been incredible. I’m so proud of the team we have at PIE. This summer we worked closely with local businesses inviting them in to run sessions; it’s so important for our children to experience different activities. We’re so lucky to have the relationships we do with local schools, parents and children. Thank you for an exhausting but fabulous two weeks!

Friday 2nd - Pantomime

We hopped on the bus to the Forum Theatre in Romiley to watch the Sleeping Beauty Summer pantomime. There was singing, dancing and plenty of laughing! It was a lot of fun and a great way to kick off our HAF activities.

Monday 5th - Police visit

Our first day in the guide hut was all about getting the young people used to our routines and expectations for the Summer. We were fortunate enough to be visited by two members of the Community Police Team who allowed the children to try on handcuffs, get in the police car and play the siren! They all listened so well and had such good questions for our visitors!

Tuesday 6th - Air Raid Shelters

Our visit to the Air Raid shelters in Stockport town centre was one to remember! Going underground and looking at where lots of people stayed safe during the war was an enlightening experience for the children!. We then had a look at the artwork made by Plastic Shed and we were lucky enough to bump into a member of the team who created and designed the installation, just as we were trying to count the 80,000 bottle lids that were used!

Wednesday 7th - Olympics

To recognise and celebrate the Olympics taking place during the Summer this year, we held our own Olympic games! The children were divided into countries, made informative posters about their country of choice, designed their own Olympic Kit and had face paint galore! Munji then put them through their paces with lots of 'alternative' Olympic sports!

Thursday 8th - Animals

For this Thursday, we had a very busy day in the guide hut. A morning full of games in the garden such as musical  bumps, musical statues and the conga. After that we welcomed Aimee and Lydia from Inspiring animal therapy who brought along some cute, furry friends. The young people got to see and hold some amazing animals. They brought rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, a hedge hog, bearded dragon and many other animal’s. It was a great day and the young people were very excited about seeing and meeting the lovely animals!

Friday 9th - Football party

On this day we welcomed Reece and Jacobe from RD football coaching. They ran a high energy session which engaged the young people for 2 hours. The young people practiced skills, played games, ran races and finished with a match! Great way for the young people to get active!

Monday 12th - Jen & Crafts

A craft day with Jen at the Guide Hut is always a favourite of ours! The children made their very own robots out of wood and some lovely wind chimes from CDs. They loved getting creative! We also had Ciara on craft duty, running her infamous paper cup sheep workshop!

Tuesday 13th - Runway Park

On this summer's day we all got to jet off to Manchester Airport Viewing Park (in a car). The young people explored the viewing park and all it had to offer including the 202 foot, 1976 Concorde, inside of an old commercial aircraft and completing the activity books the park kindly gave us. We spent the day spotting all the different types of planes landing and flying from Manchester airport and the timing was perfect as we got to see one of the most famous commercial aircraft which was the Emirates Airbus. We all could not believe how big this plane was! We had a fabulous day out!

Wednesday 14th - Wellness

Our wellness day was, ironically, a very busy one but the children definitely left feeling very zen! In the morning we had Veronica from Stars Dance Academy bring all the energy with her dance workshop. In the afternoon Living Nature UK led a great mindfulness session, the focus on breathwork and nature was a lovely opportunity for the children to slow down and do something different!

Thursday 15th - Wilmott Dixon & stockport County

Our final day in the Guide Hut was a fun one! We had a teambuilding session with Becky and Rosie from Wilmott Dixon, who got us building pyramids from sticks to reach the ceiling! The group developed so many skills from the activity. In the afternoon, Charlie from Stockport County led a football session outside in the rain which the children loved! We sent home some very soggy children that day!

Friday 16th - Skatepark

For one of the last days of HAF we headed into Manchester on the train to go to a very cool SkatePark called Projekts. After fuelling up with some food and drink the young people got suited and booted with all the protective gear they needed for their class. The coaches from Projekts were awesome, they took the young people through how to be safe whilst learning how to skateboard and then moved on to teaching them some very cool tricks. All the young people learnt the tricks with ease and were skating round the park in no time. They also had the option to use scooters which they loved.  The young people had a lot of fun and we will definitely be going back soon!

Team Highlights!

We think you'll agree that it's been a busy few weeks, and we've got one more Session coming up, a Cinema Day on 30th August. We've got another post on the way about all the new partnerships & organisations we've worked with this holiday. But it's safe to say, it's been a successful Summer!
