It's been a busy month with two new projects launching:

Next Gen is now underway for its second year, with group sessions kicking off and over 20 work experience opportunities on offer for young people looking for their next steps. We also brought together local businesses, schools and community organisations at our third event, the Next Gen Collaboration Event on 15th October (more here!) where we explored creating more and better work experiences across Stockport.

Meanwhile, a new phase of L!STEN ACT Change has launched with young people's voices working together to improve activities and safe spaces for young people in Stockport.

What we've been up to:

PIE Active

It has been great to get PIE Active up and running, and the first few sessions have been a real success! The girls have enjoyed dodgeball, tennis and active games in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Craft activities are also available, giving the girls a chance to cool down or take a break from physical activity whenever they need to. Having this option helps make the sessions inclusive and supports young people to try new activities at their own pace.

Our latest session was a Halloween special, with lots of fun, Halloween-themed games! The group is growing quickly, and we are connecting with more girls in Adswood who would like to get involved.

Ciara also attended the Active Futures celebration in Birmingham, where organisations involved in the programme came together to celebrate their achievements in helping more young people get active. It was a fantastic event and a great opportunity to reconnect with everyone and reflect on the impact of this year-long project.

Listen, Act, Change

For Phase 3, the group has been exploring how to improve the way community groups and youth activities are advertised in Stockport. Young people have repeatedly highlighted that finding out about local opportunities can be a challenge.

The group will be working with Saz Media to create a video to help organisations offering youth provision understand how best to promote their activities and get more young people involved.

The video will be shared with R-Time to be shown at the National Youth Work Week celebration next Friday at Stockroom. This is a great opportunity for organisations to hear directly from young people and pick up the group’s top tips for promoting local activities.

Moving On & Youth Boost

The Moving On group has been busy taking part in a range of sessions, including a trip out, an active session and a session focused on completing random acts of kindness. These activities have given the group opportunities to try new things, connect with others and build their confidence in communicating with members of the public.

NextGen Collaboration Event

Over 30 individuals from 20 organisations came together to unlock work experiences for young people in Stockport. Find out more here!

NextGen

With more than 20 work experiences on offer, Next Gen year 2 is well underway. Young people can choose from experiences ranging from green jobs, to event planning, creative enterprise, environmental projects and roles health and well-being.

Half-term Pop-Up Spa

Teens and their mums/carers joined us for bit of pampering, massages and manicures plus a brew and a chat about what young people need as they move towards independence and adulthood.
