what we've been up to this month:

Here's our full monthly update on our projects!

-Climate Project @ TEMA:

This month we have been completing some speedy social action at The East Manchester Academy. After the huge success of this project last year with Stockport schools we have ventured into Manchester time time. The group have been amazing - buzzing with lots of ideas. Their campaign on paper waste and recycling has led to them getting new paper recycling bins for each classroom at their school as well as having a highly successful awareness event at breaktime for Year 8 and 10.

-Hate Crime Awareness at Chorlton High School:

Our group of students at Chorlton have been working hard for weeks to organise and execute their community event. It was great to have so many different religion, cultures and backgrounds represented. Look out for the pictures on our social media!

-PWC Day at Stockport Academy:

We were thrilled to organise a volunteering day for PWC employees at Stockport Academy. They day comprised of a speed networking session in the morning where students were able to meet employees from many different secotrs within the company. They then had a live brief to complete with the help of these professionals. Feedback all round has been extremely positive!

-Culture Kitchen:

The group at St Annes are now planning their social action campaign to tackle the lack of movement and exercise that their in school survey showed them. Watch this space to see how this develops!

-Manchester Met Placements:

As Easter draws near so do dissertation deadlines which mean our students' time with us is coming to an end. Tilly, Holly and Emily have been a great addition to the team and their input and enthusiasm has been greatly appreciated. We can't wait to read their research!

-Tameside Tracks Fairfield:

The group have been busy organising a mural design competition at their school, as part of their plans to enhance the local train station. The mural, which will be installed at the station, has been designed around celebrating the amazing and diverse women within the local community. For the final session before the Easter break, the group will be joined by the Social Value Manager from TransPennine Express. They will be speaking to the young people about the wider TransPennine Route Upgrade project, as well as exploring different career pathways, apprenticeships and giving insight into their role as a Social Value Manager.

-Make Good & Listen Walking Group:

We have had some fantastic walks with our great group. We have started following the new plastic shed mural trial which is located all over Stockport. It is great to see the young people getting outside, getting active, connecting with others and supporting a local charity who has a great mission.

-Moving On:

The Moving On group continues to make great progress. Recently, they have taken part in sessions focused on mindfulness, self-kindness and recognising and celebrating the small wins. These sessions have had a really positive impact on the group’s confidence, helping young people to build a more positive mindset and feel proud of their progress, no matter how big or small.

-PIE Active (Active Futures):

Ciara recently attended another Active Futures residential in Bournemouth, which proved to be a really valuable experience for shaping the new PIE Active project. During the residential, the group explored key principles of co-design, learning directly from young people about what meaningful involvement should look like in practice. It was also a great opportunity for Ciara to connect with others in the programme, see how their projects are progressing and gather useful insights and ideas to bring back into PIE’s work. Alongside this, there were important discussions around measuring and evidencing impact, including practical approaches to collecting meaningful data in an effective and manageable way.
